In the afternoon of the 24th, a strong low pressure system moved across the region, causing thunderstorms in the afternoon hours. As night fell, temperatures dropped and snow began falling as winds increased. A gust of 57 mph was recorded in Cheyenne county Colorado. These winds and heavy snow caused brief blizzard conditions for a cumulative 2 hours, according to the Burlington ASOS. Due to the warm ground temperatures, only 2 inches of snow was reported in eastern Colorado.
