Event narrative

D2 Severe Drought persisted across the southern three-quarters of the county through the middle of the month before the remainder of the county was added to D2 Severe Drought with the update on the 19th. With the update on the 26th, the far southern reaches of the county were removed from D2 Severe Drought and replaced with D1 Moderate Drought. No other changes were noted during the month. Precipitation for the month was up to one half inch above normal.

Wider weather episode

Drought conditions persisted across parts of northwestern Wisconsin during the month of March. Areas of D2 Severe Drought covered parts or all of Iron, Ashland, Bayfield, Sawyer and Price counties at the beginning of the month with a slight expansion across much of the remainder of Ashland and Iron counties with the update on the 19th. Bayfield, Sawyer and Price counties were removed from D2 Severe Drought with the update on the 26th along with a reduction of area across Ashland and Iron counties. Precipitation for the month ended up around one-half to one inch above normal with 10 to 20 inches of snowfall falling over the course of the month as well.
