Winter Weather — Northwest Pocahontas, West Virginia
2024-02-22 · Northwest Pocahontas, West Virginia
Wider weather episode
After a brief stretch of dry weather, a low pressure system tracked through the lower and middle Ohio Valley on the morning of February 22nd. This disturbance dragged a warm front up from the south through West Virginia that morning, bringing mostly rain through the state. However, temperatures along the mountains were cold enough as the band of showers along the warm front passed overhead and led to a brief period of freezing rain. Light ice accumulations of around a hundredth of an inch laid on the roadways in Pocahontas County and resulted in multiple automobile accidents during the morning rush hour. Temperatures quickly rose above freezing after sunrise and showers transitioned over to rain for the rest of the day.
