Event narrative

A family of seven was swept away by rip currents in Playa Escondida, Fajardo. The father was able to save all his children and wife, but he drowned, and his body was recovered two days later in the area.

Wider weather episode

Wind-driven seas and a fading long-period northeasterly swell caused a high risk of rip currents along Puerto Rico's Atlantic Coastline.
