2024-03-22 to 2024-03-27 · Wasatch Mountains I-80 North, Utah

Event narrative

Several SNOTEL stations including Parley's Summit, Ben Lomond Peak, and Lookout Peak recorded 1.7 to 3.0 inches of snow water equivalent, resulting in approximately 18 to 38 inches of snow. Additionally, a report was received from the snow safety community of 19 inches of snow at Snowbasin - Base.

Wider weather episode

A cool season system impacted the area late in March and resulted in an unsettled period of weather and moderate snow accumulations for many high elevation locations around Utah. This system was characterized by an initial digging shortwave which then left the area in a broader unsettled longwave trough with embedded impulses, which triggered multiple rounds of precipitation over the course of several days.
