A west-northwest wind gust of 37 knots was measured at the Florida Keys Marathon International Airport.

A deep, negatively-tilted upper trough and a pre-existing mesoscale convective vorticity maximum over the eastern Gulf of Mexico aided in the formation of a squall line, which moved rapidly through the length of the Florida Keys from west to east.
