Event narrative

The Las Vegas Municipal Airport measured a peak wind gust of 71 mph. Additionally, a public weather station several miles south of Las Vegas along U.S. Highway 84 reported a peak wind gust of 62 mph.

Wider weather episode

An upper low continued to spin across the northern Rockies and northern Great Plains during the day on May 7th. Deep daytime mixing across New Mexico allowed stronger winds at the base of the upper low to mix down to the surface during the afternoon and early evening hours resulting in several high wind gusts across the northern mountains and surrounding highlands. Winds quickly tapered off after sunset.
