Event narrative

Social Media photos showed around 9 inches of snow in Sixteen Springs Canyon. Six inches of snow was also snow about 4 miles west-northwest of Mayhill where there were reports of cars sliding off of Highway 82 east of Cloudcroft.

Wider weather episode

A broad positively tilted trough extended from the eastern Dakotas through the Four Corners region. A back door cold front pushed into central New Mexico with the easterly winds providing for good upslope flow on the eastern side of the Sacramento Mountains where up to 9 inches of snow fell.
