Event narrative

The Texas Coastal Ocean Observing Network site (Brazos Santiago) just inshore of South Padre Island recorded a peak wind gust of 57 mph. Continuation of the small line into the nearshore waters extrapolated similar conditions just into the nearshore waters east of the barrier island.

Wider weather episode

Strong to severe thunderstorms moved along and off the Cameron County coast following initial discrete cell development farther inland, during the early evening of May 13th.

These storms produced a few strong wind reports over the Gulf Waters along the Lower Texas Coast.
