A strong upper trough was present across the Great Lakes region. Combined with this feature was a stalled frontal boundary across western North Carolina and a weak surface low along the South Carolina border. Isolated to scattered storms developed along and east of the US-1 corridor during the afternoon and early evening, with one storm cell becoming severe across Scotland County.
