Event narrative

Blizzard conditions developed during the afternoon hours on March 31st at Kotzebue (PAOT). Wind gusts to 50 mph were reported, accompanied by falling snow. This resulted in blizzard conditions developing. Conditions improved during the morning hours of April 1st.

Wider weather episode

A strong low moved from the North Pacific to Bristol Bay to the Interior and the North Slope. This low tightened the pressure gradient across the Alaska Range resulting in high winds in the Eastern Alaska Range and blizzard conditions along the West Coast. Blizzard conditions at Kotzebue continued into the morning hours of April 1st.
