Winter Storm in Western Siskiyou County, California

National Gridded Snowfall Analysis indicated storm totals of 9 to 36 inches at elevations above 3000 feet. Precipitation amounts in the zone included 0.70 inches at Quartz Hill, 1.74 inches at Dutch Indy, and 1.13 inches at Fort Jones.

A strong cold front that moved southeast out of the Gulf of Alaska and brought lowering snow levels and gusty winds with heavy snow to northern California continued east of the Cascades early on 03/01, and was followed by a strong trough associated with the axis of an upper low. This slow moving secondary low brought additional heavy snow, lingering longest in the western portion of Siskiyou County.
