What the National Weather Service wrote

Video and image of hail up to half-dollar size along highway 1045 west of Amite shared via social media. Time estimated by radar.

The wider storm

A weak mid level disturbance moved eastward across the mid Mississippi River Valley during the early morning hours of March 1st. Locally, mid level temperatures cooled in response to the disturbance to the north. That cooling process created a modestly unstable atmosphere aloft. The instability now in place was enough to support hail in one thunderstorm in St Helena Parish.

Began near Hillsdale (30.7400, -90.6000).
