KIKT Nakika Subsea Development Platform measured wind gust of 52 knots or 60 mph from thunderstorm winds.

Wider weather episode

The combination of increasing surface heating, elevated moisture, and increasing atmospheric life from an approaching mid level disturbance induced increasing storm development. Even after the sun set, storms were able to continue developing with a couple reaching severe limits in coastal waters south of Louisiana.
