Grand Isle station measured a wind gust of 43 mph.

Wider weather episode

Showers and thunderstorms draped along a cold front in northern Louisiana began racing southeastward late morning on March 15th. Based on local upper air soundings, these storms were moving into an environment with ample mid and upper level instability. In the lower levels, a region of dry air was noted in the midday sounding. That dry slot enhanced downward winds resulting in several severe wind reports across local coastal waters.
