Wider weather episode

Several thunderstorms developed along the Rio Grande southwest of San Antonio late in the day on March 16th. Those storms tracked northeast across the Texas coastline towards Louisiana, riding along a stalled frontal boundary. Although this front provided a focus to maintain storms, surface heated in southwest Louisiana started the main enhancement of convection on the 17th. The storms eventually organized into a Mesoscale Convective System which resulted in a severe thunderstorm in the open Gulf waters south of Louisiana.
