Buoy station SHBL1 Shell Beach, LA measured a gust of 40 mph.

Wider weather episode

A cold front moving through the region provided the lift needed to sustain a line of thunderstorms. Although most of the better jet dynamics were well north of the area, the tail end of a stronger jet clipped the local area in the overnight period. A few storms in the coastal waters were then strengthened enough to produce severe wind gusts.
