Event narrative

Snowfall began during the morning of the 24th and continued through the morning of the 25th across southern Aitkin County. A dry slot worked into the southern part of the county and brought an end to snowfall earlier than other nearby areas. Snowfall totals of 8-12 inches were reported with a high report of 13 inches near McGrath.

Wider weather episode

A long duration snowfall event affected northeastern Minnesota starting on the 24th of March and continued into the 26th in some areas as multiple waves of snow moved across the region in association with a slow moving area of low pressure. Widespread snowfall totals of 6 to 12 inches were reported across the region with higher amounts in excess of 20 inches along the terrain ridge from Duluth to north of Two Harbors and in the Brainerd area. Near blizzard conditions were seen along the North Shore as well with winds up to 30 mph during the heaviest snowfall. While most of the snowfall ended the night of the 25th, lingering light snowfall and continued impacts of poor road conditions lead to travel issues for much of the 26th as well as the region dug out from the snow.
