Event narrative

The month started with the southeast portion of the zone in Extreme(D3) drought with Moderate(D1) drought over the north. By the end of April, the south was in Severe(D2) drought with Moderate(D1)drought across the north. The Cooperative Observer in Cliff reported 0.68 inches of precipitation which was 0.35 inches above normal.

Wider weather episode

A slightly wetter than normal April helped to improve conditions in the far southwest, but elsewhere drought conditions remained consistent from the end of March.
