Event narrative
The southern half of the zone remained in Extreme(D3) drought with Severe(D2) drought continuing over the north. The Cooperative Observer in Elk reported 0.08 inches of precipitation which was 0.44 inches below normal.
Wider weather episode
A slightly wetter than normal April helped to improve conditions in the far southwest, but elsewhere drought conditions remained consistent from the end of March.
