What EF0 means. On the Enhanced Fujita scale, EF0 is light damage: shingles and siding peeled, gutters torn, branches broken, consistent with estimated gusts of 65–85 mph. The rating comes from a survey of the worst damage after the storm, not from a wind measurement, so it says as much about what the tornado hit as about how strong it was.

What the National Weather Service wrote

The emergency manager had a path of damage across central Marion County to the southeast of Knoxville. The tornado remained mostly in rural fields with damage occurring at a couple of farmsteads, mainly to trees.

The wider storm

A quasi-linear convective system (QLCS) swept across Iowa late on May 6th and into the early morning hours of May 7th. The line was strongest in southern Iowa where the environment was more supportive of severe weather. Damaging winds and a few embedded tornadoes occurred as the line swept across the state.

Began near Pershing (41.2550, -93.0637).
