Multiple mesoscale convective systems affected portions of the extreme southern Texas Panhandle during the morning hours of the 30th. The first MCS primarily affected Briscoe County where severe winds were measured by the Texas Tech University West Texas mesonet site near Silverton. In the wake of this initial storm complex, light rain showers caused a high wind gust near Friona (Parmer County) of 66 mph. Following quickly on the heels of this activity, a line of thunderstorms plunged southeastward across the southeast Texas Panhandle and into the northern and central Rolling Plains after daybreak on the 30th. This second round of thunderstorms affected the Childress (Childress County) area after daybreak with strong winds and hail as large as half dollars.
