Severe drought remained across nearly all of the zone.

Wider weather episode

The month of May saw overall near normal precipitation for the state as a whole. However, slightly drier than normal precipitation was observed over the western and southern halves of the state with slightly above normal precipitation over parts of east-central and northeastern NM. Drought conditions remained very consistent across the state as a whole, with only localized changes observed in San Miguel and eastern Chaves Counties.
