Wider weather episode
Sharp upper-level trough lifted into the region on April 27-28, 2024. Warm, moist airmass advected into the region during the afternoon with gusty synoptic winds finally mixing down with breaks in the clouds late afternoon. Discrete and primarily elevated storms developed ahead of the primary cold front over land during the early evening, with additional development along the cold front moving inland later. A splitting supercell moved onshore into Manistee county; left-moving supercell of this pair resulted in accumulating, damaging large hail in the Manistee-Onekama, MI area. Additional reports of large hail as the front moved eastward through the evening into early overnight hours.
