Wider weather episode

Another day of severe thunderstorms affected the South Plains of West Texas on the evening of the 31st. Broad southeasterly low level atmospheric flow allowed thunderstorms to initially develop in eastern New Mexico. Upscale growth allowed thunderstorms to move into West Texas despite a capped atmosphere over the South Plains. This line of thunderstorms produced widespread severe wind gusts from Hockley County through Lubbock, Lynn, and Garza Counties. The city of Tahoka in Lynn County sustained the most damage due to these strong winds as several structures were damaged. Additionally, pockets of heavy rainfall were observed which caused flash flooding in Lubbock and Lynn Counties.
