This was likely the result of a heat burst. The temperature increased nearly 18 degrees in 30 minutes.
Wider weather episode
A closed low over the Central Rockies with an attendant jet streak resulted in localized high winds across southeast New Mexico. Further east, severe thunderstorms developed ahead of the dryline. Lastly, a localized heat burst and high winds occurred near the Delaware Mountains.
