Event narrative
A roof was blown off of a mobile home on Forrest Skipper Drive on the night of April 3 by strong winds behind a cold front. A 20-30 minute period of 40-50 mph wind gusts were estimated to have occurred. These winds were associated with rapid pressure rises following a cold front passage and are supported by observations at the Elizabeth City Airport nearby.

An upper level low occluded over the Great Lakes on April 3 with a stationary front across southern Virginia on the morning of the 3rd lifting north as a warm front into the afternoon. Meanwhile, a secondary surface low formed across southwestern Virginia in the morning and gradually drifted east through the afternoon along with a trailing cold front which pushed through northeast North Carolina during the evening and overnight on April 3. Strong post frontal winds were measured across portions of northeast North Carolina during the night of April 3 as well.
