Prolonged period of strong rip currents and multiple rescues were reported by ocean rescue groups in New Hanover County. Between June 18th and 22nd, Carolina Beach reported 95 rip current rescues, Wrightsville Beach reported 24 rescues, and Kure Beach reported 45 rip current rescues.

Wider weather episode

Prolonged easterly swell of 4 to 5 feet at 9 seconds, along with a full moon, led to multiple days of strong rip currents at New Hanover County beaches.
