Dense Fog — Grand Valley, Colorado

2024-04-28 · Grand Valley, Colorado

Event narrative

Localized pockets of dense fog developed across the Grand Valley during the early morning hours of April 28th. This included near the Grand Junction Regional Airport, where the KGJT ASOS reported visibilities less than 1/2 mile. In addition, localized pockets of dense fog formed along the Colorado River between Grand Junction and the town of Fruita to the west, impacting a portion of I-70 that runs along the river.

Wider weather episode

A system moving through the area brought cooler temperatures and increased moisture, which became trapped underneath valley inversions. This led to a short period of very localized dense fog to develop in the Grand Valley along the Colorado River. This did impact portions of I-70.
