Event narrative

D2 Severe Drought conditions began the month over a small area just southwest of Backus with the complete removal of D2 Severe Drought with the update on the 9th. Precipitation for the month was above normal over the county and continued drought improvement was observed over the remainder of the month.

Wider weather episode

D2 Severe Drought conditions persisted across western portions of Koochiching, Itasca, and Cass counties to begin May. Rainfall for the month was near to above normal across the region and rainfall during the first week of the month led to the complete removal of D2 Severe Drought across the area. Total accumulations of 3 to 8 inches led to continuing drought improvement over the course of the month.
