Thunderstorms developed over southern parts of North Dakota as an inverted surface trough and a warm front lifted into the area. A couple of the thunderstorms became severe with large hail as the main threat, though one thunderstorm did produce estimated 60 mph wind gusts near Westfield in Emmons County. The large hail reports were all in Sioux County, with the largest report being the size of golf balls near Porcupine.
