A peak wind gust of 60 MPH was measured by the automated weather station at the Rifle Garfield County Airport due to virga and strong outflow winds from a distant thunderstorm to the northwest.
Wider weather episode
Isolated to scattered thunderstorms developed ahead of a cold front with warm temperatures ahead of it. Dry air at the low levels resulted in high based thunderstorms that resulted in gusty outflow winds. Stronger storms produced wind gusts in excess of 58 mph over Garfield County.
