The southern half of the zone remained in Extreme(D3) drought while the north was in Severe(D2) drought. The Cooperative Observer in Elk reported 0.02 inches of precipitation which was 0.97 inches below normal.
Wider weather episode
Little rain fell in May, but during a typically dry month, no changes were made to the drought categories across the region.
