The spotter estimated wind gusts at near 60 mph.

Thunderstorms developed along the east slopes of the Black Hills and became severe as they formed into a line east of the Black Hills. This line eventually connected with the line of severe storms across northwest South Dakota as it moved into central South Dakota. The storms produced mostly small hail and wind gusts to over 70 mph across west central into south central South Dakota.
