A tree and adjacent power lines were blown down along Mound Street near Ashland.

Wider weather episode

On the afternoon of June 29th, strong to severe thunderstorms quickly developed during peak heating hours with the help of a nearby cold front and unseasonably hot temperatures across northeast Kentucky. Strong wind gusts accompanying these storms caused several areas of downed trees and power lines in Greenup and Boyd Counties. There was also an instance of flash flooding in downtown Ashland, where a passing storm produced heavy downpours that flooded a local road during the afternoon and into the evening of the 29th. Storms quickly progressed into West Virginia that evening, bringing the risk of severe weather to an end that day.
