Event narrative

Two trees were downed by thunderstorm winds near Chilhowie, and the trees brought down a powerline, and blocked one lane of the road.

Wider weather episode

A line of storms tracked from eastern Kentucky into northern Tennessee in the early morning hours, and then into southwest Virginia. An area of high instability remained west of the Blue Ridge, which allowed one storm to become severe. This storm brought isolated wind damage to Smyth County.
