Lake Mattamuskeet reported heat indices up to 115 degrees.

Wider weather episode

A very hot airmass with temperatures well into the 90s combined with extremely high dewpoints in the upper 70s to low 80s to produce excessively high heat indices generally between 110 and 115 degrees during the daytime hours. The excessive heat affected all of Eastern NC except for the Outer Banks.
