Wider weather episode

A shortwave passed across Iowa, providing focus for late afternoon and evening thunderstorms. The main instability axis remained south of the area, however modest instability was still available for storm growth. Steep midlevel lapse rates were available to support hail growth and dry low levels with DCAPE near 1000 J/kg supported strong wind gusts. Storms were strongest across central Iowa, procuring quarter sized hail and a few damaging wind gusts.
