A line of storms produced high winds and wind damage across a good portion of central South Dakota during the late evening Saturday July 13th into the early morning hours Sunday July 14th. This line of storms produced wind gusts in excess of 60 mph with a peak wind gust of 109 mph 13 miles north northwest of Sansarc, along with sporadic damage prior to reaching the cities of Pierre and Fort Pierre. In and around the Pierre area, there were numerous reports of toppling of trees or limbs coming down in addition to damage to several buildings, outbuildings, campers and signage. The peak wind gust recorded by the weather station at Pierre regional airport was 84 mph. 12 weather stations spread across 10 counties recorded peak winds in excess of 70 mph. Power infrastructure was also impacted by this system with 412 customers reported to have lost power.
