Wider weather episode

During the late evening hours of May 25th, a storm brought severe wind gusts to portions of Cass and Jackson County. Initially this storm had a wind surge with 60 to 70 mph winds. Then, as the storm began to decay as it moved northward, downburst wind gusts up to 83 mph were measured, with the strongest winds in Independence. High wind gusts were measured on the western gradient of the precipitation, so these technically could be considered non-thunderstorm wind gusts. This wind event had a significant population without power for several days, primarily in Johnson County, KS.
