What the National Weather Service wrote

A severe thunderstorm dropped hail the size of quarters in Wilton Maine.

The wider storm

A strong surface cold front approached Western Maine during the afternoon hours as an upper level disturbance moved into New England. Strong shear and high low-level moisture provided the ingredients needed for the development of scattered severe thunderstorms across Central Maine ahead of the surface cold front. Damage was mostly on the low end side with outflow winds downing numerous trees. Some large damaging hail also occurred with a few of the storms.

Began near East Wilton (44.6100, -70.2300).
