Weather station on the Alligator River Bridge reported a 36 knot marine thunderstorm wind gust. Report was relayed via WeatherFlow.

Wider weather episode

A cold front approached from the west on the afternoon of July 18th. Out ahead of this front, isolated to widely scattered showers and thunderstorms developed and tracked eastwards across the Alligator River, Croatan and Roanoke Sounds, and coastal waters north of Oregon Inlet. Some of these storms became strong in nature producing damaging wind gusts.
