Roanoke Sound Channel L36 XRNK buoy in the Roanoke Sound measured a wind gust of 42 knots as thunderstorm was moving through. Report was relayed via WeatherFlow.

Wider weather episode

A cold front approached from the west on the afternoon of July 18th. Out ahead of this front, isolated to widely scattered showers and thunderstorms developed and tracked eastwards across the Alligator River, Croatan and Roanoke Sounds, and coastal waters north of Oregon Inlet. Some of these storms became strong in nature producing damaging wind gusts.
