The Brookhaven National Laboratory Meso-net station at Orient Point measured a wind gust of 42 knots.
Wider weather episode
A cold front crossing the region from late on the 23rd into the early morning hours on the 24th, caused strong thunderstorms to move across the waters near the North Fork of Long Island and near New York Harbor.
