Flash Flood — Kane, Utah
2024-07-21 · near Adairville, Kane, Utah
Event narrative
The Paria River near Kanab river gage showed a rapid rise from minimal flow to a peak flow of 409 CFS. Flooding was also confirmed by an observer along the Paria River with supporting pictures and documentation.
Wider weather episode
A largely ridge-dominated pattern persisted, resulting in anomalously warm temperatures. These hot temperatures resulted in at least one instance of a heat related fatality. Despite the strong ridge, enough moisture continued to work into the area and help in the development of diurnal convection, some of which resulted in flash flooding over more rain sensitive areas.
