Event narrative
The Junction South mesonet station recorded initial peak wind gusts of 66 mph at 5:40 pm MST and 5:50 pm MST, and an additional strong gust of 65 mph at 6:00 pm MST. These winds were the result of thunderstorm outflow, with the thunderstorm also producing 0.27 inches of rain in 10 minutes at the mesonet site.
Wider weather episode
Sufficient moisture in combination with a shortwave impulse brushing by the area resulted in numerous strong thunderstorm wind gusts in addition to isolated instances of flash flooding.
