Event narrative

A localized enhanced thunderstorm downburst resulted in a barn roof being blown off and several trees downed near E County Rd 1200 N.

Wider weather episode

With high pressure centered to the east, a weak disturbance lifted northward through the Quad State, producing clusters of showers and thunderstorms during the afternoon into the evening in Southwest Indiana. One particularly robust downdraft blew off a barn roof and downed several trees south of Santa Claus. Elsewhere, wind gusts of 46 and 51 mph were measured near Melody Hill with an evening thunderstorm. Afternoon MLCAPE near 2000 J/kg decreased to 1000-1500 J/kg during the evening, while effective bulk shear was 20-25 kts.
