Event narrative
A Colleton County emergency manager reported two individuals were rescued from
a strong rip current near 102 Palmetto Boulevard. An adult male was able to break free of the rip current and made it back to shore. An adult female was rescued after being found unconscious by emergency personnel entering the water. After being stabilized, she was flown to MUSC for emergency care.
Wider weather episode
Breezy northeast winds between low pressure offshore and high pressure inland led to conditions favorable for rip currents along the Southeast South Carolina coast.
