Wider weather episode
An area of low pressure over the lower Ohio Valley tracked into the Mid-Atlantic states along a stalled frontal boundary over Virginia. The track of the surface low led to the development of afternoon and evening isolated to scattered showers and storms, primarily along and east of the US Highway 1 corridor. These storm cells at times produced damaging wind reports, including downed trees, as well as flash flooding across Sampson, Wake, Durham, and Franklin Counties. Storm activity waned by the late evening hours.
