Event narrative

An area of strong to severe thunderstorms moved over the Blanding area in Southeast Utah on the afternoon of the 27th. In addition to other severe threats, this storm produced some severe winds, including 2 recorded gusts to 69 mph at the KBDG AWOS at the Blanding Municipal Airport. These gusts were recorded at 4:31 PM MDT and 4:35 PM MDT. No reports of damage from wind were received.

Wider weather episode

Deep subtropical moisture increased across eastern Utah and western Colorado and combined with forcing from a strong low pressure trough digging across the Intermountain West to result in widespread severe thunderstorms. These storms produced severe wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain that resulted in flash flooding and debris flows.
